Olympia, sitting on the tip of Puget Sound, is famous for its gorgeous landscapes and a neverending array of outdoor activities like hiking, biking, fishing, and boating.

Between the museums, farmers markets, and national parks in and around Olympia, you’ll find plenty to do in Washington State’s capital. Extra Storage units in Olympia have prepared a handy guide to some of the best things in and around Olympia.

Olympic Flight Museum

If you’re into aviation, the Olympic Flight Museum is a can’t-miss attraction located at the Olympia airport. The museum has a wide array of aircraft, ranging from World War II to Vietnam-era planes and helicopters.

There is also an annual Olympic Air Show in August where you can see some of these vintage planes fly. The Olympic Flight Museum also has artifacts and relics from aviation throughout many generations so you can see our nation’s connection to the skies.

Olympia Farmers Market

Open since 1975, the Olympia Farmers Market is a renowned vendor-owned and operated farmers market where you can get fresh fruits, veggies, and other handmade and locally-grown items. The market has over 100 vendors and gets over 400,000 visitors per year.

Located at the northernmost end of Capitol Way in downtown Olympia, there is free two hour parking available for the market. If you prefer to ride a bike there, you’ll get a great and scenic ride through downtown Olympia. And, they even offer free moorage if you want to take a boat there! Whether you’re selling at the market or buying, Extra Storage has Olympia storage units to keep all your items safe and secure.

Mount Rainier National Park

Throughout Washington, Mount Rainier is visible in the sky as a true icon, and it’s also an active volcano! Whether you’re visiting for hiking, biking, or wildlife, you’re bound to find what you’re looking for at Mount Rainier National Park.

The park has different areas for different activities, and much of it is only accessible by foot. The Carbon River area is a temperate rainforest. If you want to see old-growth forests, check out Ohanapecosh and marvel at the beautiful waterfalls. In the subalpine zones of Sunrise and Paradise, you can see gorgeous meadows and some of the park’s best views.

No matter what you may enjoy, if you like nature, you’ll find your match at Mount Rainier National Park, and if you need to stash your bike, canoe, tent, or any other outdoor gear, we can do it in our Olympia storage facility.

Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge

Located on the Nisqually River Delta in Southern Puget Sound, the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge consists of three thousand acres of grasslands, salt and freshwater marshes, and other habitats for migratory birds.

With over 200 species of birds visiting the refuge annually, some include the peregrine falcon and the blue heron. Other animals commonly seen at the refuge are box turtles, orca whales, and antelope.
